August Events Schedule

August 1st-August 7th—School Supplies Drive for Lee’s Summit Social Services

We are working in partnership with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Lee’s Summit Social Services to make sure all kids, regardless of income level, have the supplies they need to start back to school. Any and all supplies and back to school clothes are welcome—but there is a special need right now for 1” binders, red pens, and 10 pack colored markers. Just bring them to the shop by Wednesday, August 7th and we’ll take care of delivery to LSSS. Thanks for helping us be a good neighbor!

Papillon/Butterfly Shawl KAL with Shari Edwards (aka Shawl Maven Shari); August 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st, 2-4pm; Free

So many folks purchased the Urth Uneek and other yarns for Marin Melchoir’s Papillon/Butterfly Shawl that we thought it might be fun to host an informal KAL to work it together. Papillon Expert Shari Edwards will be available to provide guidance and help troubleshoot any stuck projects—she’s knit four of them, including the shop sample that Ms. Melchoir swooned over on social media, so Shari is definitely qualified to handle your Papillon questions! Walk in anytime on Saturdays in August between 2-4pm for Papillon fun and moral support!

Brioche 101; August 21st, 5-7pm; $40

Everyone’s doing it—you should, too! We will cover all the basics of this beautiful and addictive stitch using the approach founded by Nancy Marchant, aka the Mother of Brioche, to create the Beginner’s Brioche Cowl designed by Lavanya Patricella. Class supplies include two 100 yard skeins of bulky weight yarn (7 wpi) in contrasting colors, and a US 11 16” circular needle (purchased separately). Soon you’ll be “barking” and “burping” your way to beautiful brioche knitting!

And for those who have completed Brioche 101, we are offering…

Brioche 102; August 24th, 9-11am; $40

Now that you have mastered the basics, let’s take your brioche skills to the next level! We will explore variations on basic “barks” and “burps” to create interesting stitch motifs, including leafy brioche and cables. Supplies include worsted and fingering weight yarn (leftovers are fine, we will work on swatches) and the appropriate needle size for both weights, plus a cable needle. And anyone who has taken Brioche 101 can take 10% off yarn and supplies purchased for their next brioche project!

Dye Party with Round Mountain Fibers; August 28th, 5-7pm; $30

If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at hand-dyeing, now is your chance! We will use Drunk Yarn Home Dyeing Kits from Round Mountain Fibers to create beautiful colorways inspired by the hues in alcoholic beverages, tea and coffee (kinda seems like a natural fit for us, huh?)—including Bourbon, Darjeeling, Mojito, Blue Agave, and Sangria. The dye kits include a single skein of 100% superwash DK weight Merino; Greener Shades powdered dye (so no harsh chemicals); and, organic citric acid— everything you need to create your own semisolid, variegated or speckled work of art. Class fee includes the kit and dyeing time, and class size is limited to 10 so sign up early to claim your spot!

Fine Print: Classes are $20 per hour, except where otherwise noted. Supplies and yarn purchased separately. All classes must be prepaid; class size limited to 10 with a minimum of two registrants (class is subject to cancellation if less than two are registered.) Email at, call at (816)-927-5676, or just swing by the shop to register and pick up yarn, supplies, and any homework assignment!
