Ribbon Cutting—Thursday, October 3rd at 4pm, followed immediately by a cocktail reception
Grand Opening Weekend—October 4th-5th during regular business hours.
Includes the Knit Collage Trunk Show and Shibui Mix Party—take 10% off any purchase made those two days of Knit Collage or Shibui yarn! Plus every $50 shop purchase earns one entry in your choice of drawings for the following kits: Lavender Lune’s Autumn Bloom Sweater; Emma’s Yarn Super Silky Bahama Breeze Shawl; Knit Collage Dreamland Moto Mitts & Cowl; and Shibui’s Sindi Colorplay Cowl. FYI, spend $100, get two entries; spend $150 and get three…you get the idea….a great opportunity to jump start your holiday gift knitting (those Knit Collage Moto Mitts work up super fast and will make great stocking stuffers!) and snag yarn for our upcoming KALs while earning the opportunity to win free stuff and celebrate with us—that’s a fiber four-fer!
Stephen West & Rios Poncho KAL! October 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th, 5-7pm; Free with yarn purchase
We’re offering multiple KAL options in October—the Rios Poncho, a perfect fall layering piece designed by our very own Shari Edwards and worked in Malabrigo Rios; designs from Stephen West’s new book, Westknits Bestknits 3 (coming soon to the shop!); the Sea Swells Shawl, or his 2019 Starflake MKAL. Choose from the architectural Chrysler or the marled Westfjords Wanderer, or pick up one of the Sea Swells Shawl kits created just for us by London-based indie dyer and frequent Westknits collaborator, Layla (Qing) Yang of Qing Fibres. And if you’re up for the MKAL, the Starflake shawl promises to be a bold and graphic design in celebration of 10 years of Westknits MKALs. Purchase access to Starflake from Ravelry to get all the available details; swing by the shop for more information regarding the Rios Poncho or any of the other Westknits designs.
Build Your Skills Workshops; October 12th, 19th; & 26th; 9am-10am; $50 for package of three; $20 a la carte
You know how to knit and purl—now it’s time to take your skills to a new level with our Build Your Skills Workshops. Each session will focus on an essential aspect of knitting beyond the basics and will cover the following: October 12th—Fix Your Mistakes (pick up dropped stitches in stockinette and garter; fix a dropped edge stitch; unknit and rip back without tears); October 19th—Beyond Basic Cast-Ons & Bind-Offs (German twisted/Old Norwegian, tubular cast on and bind off, cable cast on; three needle bind off); October 26th—Finish Your Handknits (weaving in ends, seaming, and blocking). Each session will require homework before class; details provided at registration.
Saturday Circle; Saturdays, 2pm-4pm, beginning October 12th
Like our Thursday Knit Night Happy Hours, Saturday Circle will be a chance to gather and knit on the weekends, but with a purpose—we’ll offer free assistance with your works-in-progress (aka WIPs) as well as charity knitting opportunities for those who are interested. Specifically, we’ll have hat and scarf patterns for those who want to create cold weather items for disadvantaged citizens in our community for distribution through our neighborhood partnership with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Lee’s Summit Social Services. Additionally, we’ll have appropriately-sized patterns to create newborn hats and garments for babies born at Maison de Naissance, the birthing home we support in Torbeck, Haiti. So you can Knit Good Do Good locally and globally—and you can take 10% off select yarn purchased for our charity knitting projects. But if you’re not in the mood for charity knitting, or don’t need any help with a troublesome WIP, no worries—you’re still welcome at the table. Just bring your handcrafting and join Saturday Circle!
Learn to Knit with Knit How—COMPLETELY REVAMPED! October 16th & 23rd, 5-7pm, $60
Based on PomPom Quarterly’s Knit How book, our class will cover the skills necessary to create all the beautiful things. You’ll leave the class with confidence and a new wash cloth—both are beautiful and useful! Contact the shop to pre-register and get a supplies list; books and beginner kits available for optional purchase.
“Winebeck!” October 19th; All day; Free
The event for those of us who can’t make it to the New York Sheep & Wool Festival—otherwise known as “Rhinebeck.” Wear your hand-crafted sweater/shawl/cowl/scarf/hat/etc…etc…etc… to the shop that day and be entered in a drawing to win an Emma’s Yarn kit featuring Andrea Mowry’s Rhinebeck design, the Stonecrop Sweater. You get an entry for every hand-crafted item you wear—double your entry if you purchased the yarn from us! We’ll also feature a wine tasting of Fingering Lakes and Hudson Valley wine, to sip ’n knit like the upstate locals—join us for Winebeck fun!
Dye Party with Round Mountain Fibers “Drunk Yarn;” October 31st, 5-7; $20 for the kit
Our Dye Parties have been such a big hit, we’ve decided to make them a permanent fixture of the last Knit Night Happy Hour of the month! Here’s your chance to dye your own yarn using Round Mountain Fibers Drunk Yarn kits, which feature colorways based on drink names like Sangria, Bourbon, and Mojito, as well as Darjeeling for the teetotalers. A great opportunity to have fun with friends and try your hand at hand-dyeing! (But no worries if hand-dyeing isn’t your jam; you can still just hang out at the table on those nights and sip ’n knit….) No need to preregister but due to time constraints each session will be limited to four dyeing participants.
Fine Print: Classes are $20 per hour, except where otherwise noted. Supplies and yarn purchased separately. All classes must be prepaid; class size limited to 10 with a minimum of two registrants (class is subject to cancellation if less than two are registered.) Email at email@example.com, call at (816)-927-5676, or just swing by the shop to register and pick up yarn, supplies, and any homework assignment!
