Handspun Hope gives dignified employment to over 120 women, most of them widows and orphaned survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi. Additionally, HH is a certified member of the Fair Trade Federation, which guarantees fair wages and working conditions for the artisans.
Wool from Handspun Hope's own flock of Merino sheep is triple washed, then the ladies of HH create the yarn using the age-old craft of spinning with only wheels and hand tools. Finally, the HH women hand-dye the yarn in a bath made from local ornamental plants.
Please note, due to the characteristic of natural plant hand dyes, actual color may vary between skeins. We recommend alternating skeins in your project.
