We've long been fans of Helen Stewart's podcast, Curious Handmade, as well as her design aesthetic; her dedication to the soothing enjoyment that flows from the rhythm of a good knit makes her work a natural fit for The Healing Power of Making. For our May kit we paired her Shell Cottage Socks with Lavender Lune MCN Fingering for a luxurious pair of socks comforting to knit and wear.

The Shell Cottage Socks feature a fun and easy ribbed “knot” stitch for the leg and top of the foot. Visually, the twists line up like rows of pretty seashells on the cottage walls, and this stretchy rib makes these socks as cosy and squishy as can be. They look impressive, but the pattern is simple and gratifying, even for newish sock-knitters. Knit from the top down, they feature a twisted rib cuff, a classic eye of partridge heel, and a gently rounded toe; the socks are easily adaptable if you have your own favorite finishes. The pattern comes with three sizes, so you’re sure to find your perfect fit.

THPOM May Kit includes the pattern, one skein of yarn, and lagniappe, which this month is a copy of Melanie Falick's Making a Life, a coffee table-worthy book examining the lives of those who make Beautiful and Useful Things with their hands.
