The Shetland Trader: Get ready for an unprecedented blend of groovy 70s silhouettes, classic Shetland colorwork, and contemporary design elements; think of bold outlines and shapes which feature intricate, time-honored Fair Isle motifs. The Shetland Trader, Book 3: Heritage contains 11 patterns (7 garments and 4 accessories) by Shetland-born knitwear designer Gudrun Johnston, including a first for Pom Pom Press: dresses! This is the third installment of The Shetland Trader series celebrating Gudrun’s geographical and familial roots. The designs not only incorporate the traditional Shetland knitting techniques and motifs Gudrun has helped to popularize internationally, but also represent a throwback to the made-to-order knitwear business run in the 1970s by Patricia Johnston, Gudrun’s mother, which operated as The Shetland Trader. Exclusively for The Shetland Trader, Book Three, Gudrun has selected some of her mother’s best-loved designs and updated them for twenty-first century knitters. Use these patterns to create Shetland-chic ensembles as well as heirloom pieces impervious to time.
Wool Journey: A natural companion to The Shetland Trader, Wool Journey: Shetland takes you on an adventure to the islands with Jaime and Amber of Fancy Tiger Crafts, Malia Mae Joseph and Stephen West of Stephen & Penelope, and Ysolda Teague. This group of yarn loving, knitting-aficionado friends traveled to Shetland in the summer of 2013, and brought back a wealth of inspiration and knowledge. Out of this woolly adventure came a beautiful book that explores the knitting community and culture from the Shetland Islands. It’s part travel guide, part travel book, and of course features 5 patterns inspired by and knit in Shetland yarns.
Moon & Turtle: Sachiko and Kiyomi Burgin’s talent to infuse unique and contemporary design details with classic knitwear styles shines through in the twins’ first collaborative collection. Moon and Turtle contains nine knit designs (4 garments, 5 accessories) which showcase an edgy urban aesthetic, reflecting the twins’ life in Toronto / Tkaronto, Canada. Much like Sachiko and Kiyomi themselves, Moon and Turtle is truly synergic. The duality associated with identical twins is thoughtfully and intelligently embedded into every aspect of the book. From the designs, to the authors’ musings, to the title of the book itself, there’s a quiet harmony in the idea that two things or people can be visually similar but also appreciably distinct. The patterns are gender-neutral, graded up to a 62” chest, and contain body and sleeve length adjustments in the hope that this book can be enjoyed by many knitters for years to come. Playful colorwork, paired with simply constructed garments, means that Moon and Turtle is a fabulous step up from pattern books such as Ready Set Raglan. Kiyomi and Sachiko’s sisterly affection for one another is clear and shines through their words and designs. We are charmed by Moon and Turtle and we’re sure you will be, too!
Embody: A Capsule Collection to Knit & Sew, Jacqueline Ceislak: Jacqueline's first book unites her sewing and knitting expertise in a capsule collection of customizable patterns designed to be made and worn together.
